5 Favorite Things To Do In Nosara, Costa Rica For Families

This spring break, our family just wanted a simple, laid back break.  We wanted to be active yet not manic.  We definitely wanted to be warm! And most of all, we wanted to feel good, healthy and vibrant without having to go to a lot of trouble.  Our answer this year was Costa Rica.  A friend introduced us to Nosara, named for the disobedient daughter of the original land owner  of the town with who was constantly tell in his daughter Sara, NO!

Nosara is a family friendly surf and yoga town.  It’s got everything one needs for an easy family vacation that is certain to please everyone.  We stayed busy everyday going to yoga, surfing, going to the beach, riding ATVs and eating!

1: Yoga at Harmony Hotel: one day we did a simple flow class and then another we did their areal (silks) class.  Both were great and took place in the outdoor yoga studio.   The hotel is lovely as well with beautiful grounds and a great juice cafe.

2: Surfing is the favorite past time for most folks in Nosara.  There are lots of kids camps geared towards surfing, or just take a 1 hour private lesson to get yourself started.  The Gilded Iguana is a hotel geared towards families.  They have a great location within a 3 minute walk to the beach and a surf/beach club on the way.

3.  The beach is beautiful and best visited in the morning when the surf is low or late afternoon when the sun is going down and you can watch the surfers.

4.  One drawback is the roads.  They are really pretty bad but, that keeps the population down as you need to make effort to get there.  To get around Nosara, you can rent a golf cart, bike, ATV, or simply walk.  We opted for an ATV and had a blast exploring the area.

5.  The food is the epitome of healthy eating.  One night we ate at a vegan restaurant and didn’t even notice the chicken was tofu till half way through the meal.  It was delicious!  There are tons of little cafes, juice bars, and restaurants.  Our favorite was La Luna.
